Second Life VS IMVU

I'm a second lifer. No doubt about it. You may ask why when there are other virtual communities out there like IMVU. The anwer is easy which is the reason for this comparison article between heavyweight Second Life and IMVU.

IMVU

IMVU is an avatar 3D community where you can chat, make friends, shop and decorate your own home. There are good things about IMVU, but not very many.

When you sign up for IMVU, you will get bonus sign up money. Mine was $500 which is not bad! You begin with your own house you can decorate and it has some furniture in it. You will have some clothes to wear in your inventory to get you started. Sounds like a good deal and in some ways it is. In other ways it's not.

The biggest downfall of IMVU is that the only way you can move around is by clicking on yellow dots and it will move your avatar to those places. No real walking, dancing or other fun stuff.

Another con for me is that you go to all of these chat rooms to meet people. This is all good, but I didn't see any other places or travel destinations you could go to.

Second Life

Second life is another 3D virtual world where you can do pretty much anything! There are over 6200 regions that are listed in the index and many beautiful places you can visit. Your avatar can actually walk, dance and participate in all the fun stuff you would do in real life! You are only limited by your imagination.

You can join for free as a basic member which will allow you to travel, chat and interact with other second life residents. If you really like second life, you will want to upgrade to a premium membership. Premium membership allows you to have a house, buy land and recieve 300 LInden dollars each week (L300).

To be fair to IMVU, perhaps I did not spend enough time on there to really get to know the site. But, there are so many options in second life, that for me, it was the only choice when joining a virtual world.
